Tens of thousands of people visited the stand of Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University at the Russia exhibition in Moscow. The task of the delegation of the country’s first technical university, which worked for two days at VDNKh, was to popularise science and higher technical education.

Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University continues a series of laboratory experiments aimed at creating a fundamentally new technology for the production of aluminum. Now it is produced by electrolysis of alumina solution in molten cryolite, and this process takes place in apparatuses with horizontally arranged anode and cathode.

The Empress Catherine II St. Petersburg Mining University continues to implement a pilot project to improve the system of personnel training for the national economy. One of its characteristic features is the enrollment of students exclusively in the specialties of basic higher education with a study period of 5.5 years. In other words, bachelor’s degree is no longer included in the university curricula.

At the end of January 2024, a representative delegation from Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University spent a working week in Shiraz, the second capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran, at the invitation of Shiraz University. The administrators, scientists and young teachers studied in detail the methodology of the educational system of the country, its scientific component, visited the enterprises of Fars Province, held a number of negotiations with representatives of the university, industrialists, employees of state bodies.

In the context of a mobilised economy and the solidarity of the population with this position of the state, there is no other option but to build relations with industry, paraphrasing the slogan ”Everything for the front, everything for victory”. That is, any research or development should serve the task of intensive technological development of the country. In Iran, this is exactly the case.

The company is also planning to take part in the implementation of a pilot project to modernize the country’s higher education system, which is currently being implemented in Russia’s first technical university.

The second season of the School Leader competition started at St. Petersburg Mining University. Any 11th grade student can sign an agreement of intent to participate in it. If he or she achieves the necessary threshold score in the USE, he or she will become a candidate for the right of guaranteed enrollment in the oldest higher technical school in Russia, regardless of the results of the admission campaign.

The railroad complex in Russia is one of the largest in the world. It ranks second in terms of total track length, second only to the USA. But 200 years ago the issue of creating a network of cast-iron roads in the country caused heated debates, and along with supporters there were those who argued that in our climate their construction was impossible and that the cost would significantly exceed the expected return.

Vladimir Litvinenko, Rector of Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University, signed an order to resume reimbursement payments for meals in the university’s canteens and cafeterias. All full-time employees, starting from January 15, will be reimbursed for lunches or breakfasts in the amount of 210 rubles daily. Thus, in case of regular visits to public catering enterprises, regardless of the training center in which they are located, employees of the oldest higher technical educational institution of Russia can expect a refund of 4 to 5 thousand rubles monthly.

Students of Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University became prize-winners of the regional competition for the best organization of student self-government in St. Petersburg. They took the second place in the nomination ”The best student association in a dormitory”. A total of 52 teams took part in the competition.

According to the Minister of Science and Higher Education, this will allow to accelerate the implementation of the pilot project to improve the system of personnel training, which was initiated by Vladimir Putin.

Trade turnover between Russia and Africa continues to grow. In the first eight months of last year, it increased by 43.5%, to $15.5 billion, and the share of the countries of the sunny continent in the total volume of our foreign trade increased from 2.3% to 3.7%. The dynamics is undoubtedly positive, especially if we take into account that the overwhelming majority of experts are confident in its preservation.

Russia’s oldest technical university became the first higher education institution in our country to launch a pilot project to improve the higher education system, which was initiated by President Vladimir Putin. The main goal of the curriculum transformation is to move away from graduating bachelors and focus on training young specialists who are in high demand in the real sector of the national economy.
